During an undergraduate or specialization course, at some point the student must practice what he has learned. It is by putting the “hands on” that the professional will be able to understand what their goals are, in addition to acquiring experience and expanding their skills.

It is common for the new routine to be messy, and reconciling work and study seems impossible. It is important for the student to understand what works best for their day to day and put it into practice. Below are some tips that can guide you right now.

1. Divide your time

First of all, the first step is to organize the time that will be allocated to each of the activities. Decide when it will be your time to carry out only course demands, and when to work.

Some people choose to study at night, others in the morning. There is no rule, so it is important that you realize which part of the day your study is most productive. Stipulate how much time will be allotted for each task, and more than that, respect the established plan, and adjust if necessary.

2. Planning 

Now it's time to define what will be accomplished. The courses provide the deadlines for delivery of activities by subject. In this way, a prior organization is possible. There are many ways to schedule the execution of a task. This can be done digitally, through free tools like Google Calendar, or physically, through Planner, a kind of detailed printed agenda.

In the first format, it is possible to customize much of the activity, from color to folder separations and order of importance. It is still possible to include notifications, and synchronize the digital calendar on all your devices. That way, you won't miss the deadlines and you can organize yourself as you prefer.

In the second format, the planner can be purchased at stationery stores. These calendars usually have large spaces for notes by month, week and day. Ideal for those who need to write to memorize, they offer a panoramic view of tasks.

3. Self-knowledge

Knowing how you learn can help you save time and optimize work and study. Each person has a way: listening, reading, speaking or writing. Abstracts, topics, mind maps, sticky notes, videos and podcast — there are a multitude of options that can be used to your advantage.

Noticing how you hold the most information helps direct your focus. Also, over time, you can notice which subjects and tasks need more attention, and which ones are easier. Thus, time and energy will be saved, making everything more assertive and objective.

4. Discipline

It will not always be easy to put planning into practice and reconcile all sides. Fatigue, stress and unforeseen events are part of it, and resilience will often be put to the test. At this point, it is important to define what is a priority. Often, you will have to put aside a party, for example, to study.

This does not mean overstepping your physical and mental limits. Listen to your body's signals, and if a nap or a walk in the park is necessary to regain attention, don't hesitate. Always keep in mind what your goals are, and remind yourself daily of the ultimate goal!
