Knowing if a course is recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC) is important for students heading to higher education, since recognized courses can issue diplomas validated by the highest education body in the country. MEC offers an online service to carry out verifications of courses and institutions that establish Federal Government certification.
The e-MEC is a free platform that makes it possible to search for institutions and courses recognized by the MEC. On the website, the user fills in a form with the information and can view the search result. Check below how to know if a course is recognized by the MEC.
How to know if a course is recognized by the MEC
Step 1. To find out if a course is recognized by the MEC, access the e-MEC website (emec.mec.gov.br/emec/nova#avancada) and keep the “Advanced Consultation” option selected. By default, the service searches for educational institutions. However, you can also change the setting to search for courses. For this, use the option “Graduation Course”;
Step 2. In this step, in “Name, Acronym or Institution Code”, enter the name of the university. In “Course”, write the name of the desired undergraduate course;
Step 3. Enter the information requested in the form: city, municipality, free of charge, modality, degree, quality index and situation. Solve the verification code and click the “Search” button;
Step 4. The result will appear at the bottom of the screen. Click on the magnifying glass icon to view more details;
Step 5. The course status appears at the top right of the screen. You can also view a list of all locations in the state where the course is recognized.
